38.52 LAKH SLUM DWELLERS OF ANDHRA PRADESH BENEFIT FROM NATIONAL SLUM DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME


Government has provided an amount of Rs. 78.53crore as Additional Central Assistance to Andhra Pradesh under National Slum Development Programme (NSDP) during the last three years. Year wise details of the assistance are as under: -

In addition to the above, a sum of Rs. 57.88 lakh as Central Subsidy has been released to Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation for construction of 392 toilet seats in Visakhapatnam during the year 2002-03 under Valmiki Ambedkar Awas Yojana (VAMBAY). As reported by the State Government, since inception of the programme, the State of Andhra Pradesh has covered 116 towns and 3495 slum pockets under National Slum Development Programme (NSDP) benefiting about 38.52 lakh slum dwellers.

The Central assistance is to supplement the efforts of the State Government of Andhra Pradesh to improve slum conditions particularly for making provision of basic amenities like water supply, storm water drains, sewer, community latrines and bath, street lights, shelter upgradation etc.
