The Ministry of Railways in its comments have expressed the following views:

The capital cost of Farakka Barrage and its annual maintenance charges should be borne by all beneficiaries including Government of West Bengal and Kolkata Port Trust.

Railways have already shared Rs. 11.04 crores towards capital cost of Farakka Barrage and also paid Rs. 1.78 crores (approximate) towards its share of maintenance charges.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri Bandaru Dattatraya in a written reply to a question from Shri Basudeb Acharia in the Lok Sabha today.
