NO SPECIFIC INFORMATION ABOUT
CHILDREN RUNNING AWAY FROM THE JUVENILE HOMES
LOK
SABHA
Centre has not received
from any state specific report or information regarding children
running away from the juvenile reform homes on account of being
deprived of basic facilities like food, clothing and shelter.
Stating this in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today, the Minister
for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Satyanarayan Jatiya said
that the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act,
2000 requires the state governments to establish and maintain
by themselves or under an agreement with voluntary organisations,
observation homes and special homes in every district or a group
of districts as may be required. He said that observation homes
are established for temporary reception during the pendency of
any inquiry and special homes are set up for reception and rehabilitation
of children who are in conflict with law. Dr. Jatiya said that
the management of these homes is the responsibility of the state
governments. He said the management includes all services, which
are necessary for social integration and rehabilitation of these
children.
