ALL INDIA CONSUMER PRICE INDEX NUMBERS
FOR AGRICULTURAL AND RURAL LABOURERS FOR AUGUST,2003 INCREASES
BY ONE AND TWO POINTS RESPECTIVELY
All India Consumer
Price Index Numbers for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers
on base 1986-87=100 for July, 2003 when compared to June, 2003
increased by 1 and 2 points respectively to stand at 331 (Three
hundred and thirty one) for Agricultural Labourers and 334 (Three
hundred and thirty four) for Rural Labourers.
Rise/Fall indices
varied from state to state. In case of Agricultural labourers,
15 states reflected increase ranging between 1 to 8 points, indices
of 3 states showed decrease between 1 to 6 points and indices
of 2 states remained constant. Tamil Nadu with index at 356 points
topped the index table whereas Bihar (including Jharkhand) was
at the bottom with index at 303 points.
In case of Rural
Labourers, 15 states reflected increase in indices between 1 to
7 points, 2 states showed decrease between 3 to 5 points and indices
of 3 states remained constant. Tamil Nadu was at the top of index
table with index at 354 points whereas Bihar was at the bottom
with index at 305 points.
West Bengal experienced
sharpest increase of 8 and 7 points for Agricultural Labourers
and rural Labourers respectively. On the other hand Tamil Nadu
recorded maximum decrease of 6 and 5 points for Agricultural Labourers
and rural Labourers respectively.
Point to point
rate of inflation based on CPI-AL and CPI-RL decreased from 5.10%
and 4.73% respectively in June, 2003 to 4.75% and 4.70% in July,
2003. Respective rates of inflation during July, 2002 were 2.27
% and 2.57%.
