SAWAN SARAS ORGANISED BY RURAL DEVELOPMENT MINISTRY TOWARDS PROMOTION OF MARKETING OF RURAL PRODUCTS


Shri Kashiram Rana, Union Minister for Rural Development called upon the media to sensitize and create awareness among the urban consumers to the richness of products from rural poor and to create demand of such products. These rural and traditional products are important contributors to the economy of the nation and also provide the true picture of our heritage. Speaking to the media persons at Dilli Haat, Shri Rana expressed the hope that event like ‘Sawan Saras’ would bring forth the rich traditions of our crafts.

‘Sawan Saras’ - being organised from August 16-31, 2003 is a new initiative by the Ministry of Rural Development towards promotion of marketing of rural products at Dilli Haat. The product range on display would be a true glimpse of rich cultural diversity and traditions of rural India.

Shri Rana said 350 craft persons would be participating in the event and a wide range of rural products covering handicrafts, furniture, textiles, leather items, processed food items, bamboo products would be on display and for sale. He emphasised that fair will not only provide an outlet for sale of products of Swaranjayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana (SGSY) beneficiaries but will also expose the self-help groups to the marketing trend and latest development in product design, value addition and packing quality.
