STUDY ON ECONOMIC CONDITION
OF FARMERS
A study
titled "State of the Indian Farmers – A Millennium Study"
has been sponsored by the Government. During the first phase of
the study, 26 teams of authors have been engaged by three leading
academic institutions to write analytical papers on various topics
within the broad area of agriculture. These papers will document
the policies and programmes followed during the last fifty years,
together with their impact on the well-being of farmers. The Government
has not yet received the final version of these papers. As part
of Phase – II of the study, a Situation Assessment Survey on professional
and economic conditions of farmers is being carried out by the
National Sample Survey Organisation. The field work for this all-India
Survey will continue upto December this year.
The
papers written in Phase-I and the findings of the Survey are likely
to help future planners and policymakers draw meaningful conclusions
from past experiences.
