DIESEL LOCOS IN SOUTH EASTERN RAILWAY

The Railways have
installed diesel loco shed in South Eastern Railway.
In view of lower
maintenance and operating costs, superior load haulability and
greater operational flexibility, Steam locos have been replaced
by Diesel locos on Indian Railways. An investment of Rs. 8.68
crores was made in constructing Diesel shed at Kharagpur, which
started functioning from 1988.
Kharagpur Diesel
shed homes 114 Diesel locos.
This information
was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri Bandaru Dattatraya
in a written reply to a question from Shri Prabodh Panda in the
Lok Sabha today.
