LIVESTOCK CENSUS
The report of the
Livestock Census, 1997 is likely to be made available by November
this year. The States of Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal
and the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli did not conduct
the census. The data for these States have been projected on the
basis of annual growth rates of animal population in these States.
The annual growth rates of these States are more than the national
annual growth rate. The 17th Livestock Census due in
2002 is going to be conducted with 15th October this
year as the reference date. The provisional report of the census
is likely to be available by September next year.
The population
of livestock in the country has been continuously increasing over
the years. The livestock population in the country since 1951
as per livestock census reports for various years is as follows:-
