RECEIPT OF VIEWS OF THE STATE GOVERNMENTS BY THE POTA REVIEW COMMITTEE

The Rajya Sabha was informed that the Review Committee on POTA addressed all State Governments/Union Territory Administrations to furnish information regarding cases registered by them under POTO/POTA. The Committee has received information from the Governments of Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh and NCT of Delhi. Some other States have furnished nil information.

The Minister of State for Home, Shri I.D. Swami informed the House that the State Governments of Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh have furnished copies of the FIRs of the cases registered by them under POTO/POTA to the Review Committee.

The Review Committee has received fourteen complaints from individuals pertaining to Tamil Nadu, two concerning Delhi, three pertaining to Uttar Pradesh and one relating to Jharkhand. It has addressed the concerned State Governments to furnish their views on these complaints.

The information was given in reply to a question from Shri Abani Roy on whether the POTA Review Committee has since received the views of the State Governments on the said anti-terror law.
