MEASURES FOR RAIL SECURITY IN NAXALITE INFESTED REGIONS

The Railways have introduced measures for security of trains and passengers in naxalite infested areas.

Accordingly, a Zonal Railways Committee has been formed in each Division to identify sections under threat, in consultation with the State Police, and introduce security patrolling of the tracks as the State Government is not in a position to perform this preventive measure.

Besides, the State Governments have been sensitized over sharing of actionable intelligence by them and intelligence agencies with Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Railways. In addition, Government Railway Police (GRP) and State Police have taken additional steps for preventing any untoward incident.

In vulnerable areas, patrolling of tracks by motor trolley with State Police Personnel has been introduced. During bundhs and agitations, patrolling of tracks with engines is resorted to in affected areas.

The State Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police are providing necessary cooperation in strengthening security of train services.

Security of trains from sabotage and that of passengers is the primary responsibility of the State Governments. The Railways and RPF, however, help out the State Governments and GRP wherever and whenever required.
