SHRIPAD NAIK INAUGURATES ART OF LIVING COURSE AT NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR TRAINING OF HIGHWAY ENGINEERS

The Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik today inaugurated the Art of Living Course at the National Institute for Training of Highway Engineers (NITHE). The Course has been included in the training programme of highway engineers. It aims at stress management and enhancing the personal efficiency of the individual through breathing exercises. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences has found that the Course helps in reducing the stress levels of the participants. It also helps in increasing mental ability, concentration, calmness and general state of happiness.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Naik said that highway engineers have the enormous responsibility of translating the dream project of Hon'ble Prime Minister, National Highways Development Project, into reality. He emphasised that it is for the first time after independence that road infrastructure has got its due. India has the second largest road network in the world and the National Highways Development Project is the single largest road project to be undertaken by any country after World War II, he added. He hoped that the Art of Living Course would help the engineers in their professional work by providing relief from stress and enhancing the quality of life in general.

NITHE is an apex level organisation entrusted with the responsibility of conducting courses on skill and knowledge upgradation of the highway engineers. So far, 8120 engineers at various levels from Government as well as private sector have been provided training at NITHE during 350 training programmes. The emphasis so far has been on the technical and management aspects related to the work sphere. However, after taking charge as President of NITHE on 24th May 2003, Shri Naik has given a new direction to the training programmes. He has initiated several changes in the activities of the Institution. The intensity and frequency of the programmes has increased manifold. The activities before and after the course have been made interesting enough for the participants to stay back in the campus and use this opportunity to enrich themselves to the extent possible. Courses aimed at stress management and personality development have been included in the training programmes.
