PUSHKAR LAKE TO BE TAKEN OVER BY ASI FOR DEVELOPMENT

Archaeological survey of India has proposed to take over Pushkar Lake in Ajmer for its development as major tourist place. A preliminary notification under Section 4 of the ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and remains Act, 1958 has been issued expressing he intention of the Government to protect the Pushkar Lake and ghats as the site/monument of national importance. This was stated by the Minister for Tourism and Culture, Shri Jagmohan in reply to a question by Shri Satish Pradhan in Rajya Sabha today.

The Minister further stated that after the issue of the final notification, schemes for improvement, including repair and renovation of ghats, would be taken up in phases.
