MASTER PLAN FOR THE DEVELOPMENT
OF HAMPI AND HARIDWAR
LOK SABHA
The Ministry of Tourism
and Culture has engaged Housing and Urban Development Corporation
Ltd. (HUDCO), a public sector undertaking to prepare development
plans/master plans for certain tourism destination such as Hampi
Group of monuments in Karnataka; rishikesh and Haridwar in uttaranchal;
Eastern circuit comprising Vaishali-Rajgir-Nalanda-Bodhgaya in
Bihar; Sarnath and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh; Mahabalipuram, Thiruvannamalai
and Kanyakumari and Tamil Nadu; Central Circuit comprising Bhopal-Sanchi-Vidisha-Udaygiri-Bhojpur-Bhimbetka-Hoshangabad
in Madhya Pradesh and tourist circuit of North-East region comprising
Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
Master plans
have been completed in respect of Rishikesh and Haridwar, Mahabalipuram,
Central Circuit in Madhya Pradesh and tourist circuit of North-East
region. This was stated by the Minister for Tourism and Culture,
Shri Jagmohan in reply to a question by Shri Sultan Salahuddin
Owaisi in Lok Sabha today.
Shri Jagmohan
further added that the Planning Commission has indicated a total
outlay of Rs. 2900 crores for the Tenth Plan for Tourism sector
out of which Rs. 1535.50 crores have been earmarked for tourism
infrastructure development in the country including the areas/centres
mentioned above. These funds are earmarked for the integrated
development of Tourist Circuits and Destinations.
