ENCOURAGING RESULTS OF RAIN WATER HARVESTING AT RASHTRAPATI BHAVAN

Rashtrapati Bhavan, appropriately enough, has initiated concerted efforts to harvest rain water in the Bhavan complex and it has started producing excellent results. An elaborate system of water harvesting structures including channels and wells has been laid out in the President’s Estate in order to trap the water and to re-charge the wells.

As a result of these efforts, the water-table has been showing a steady rise and has recorded an increase of an average of 1.90 meters in the Estate. The water level is being regularly monitored with the help of experts. With the encouraging results achieved in Rashtrapati Bhavan, it is hoped that people will take to this simple and cost-effective water conservation measure in a big way.
