COMMONWEALTH BID EVALUATION COMMISSION VISITING DELHI


A delegation of Bid Evaluation Commission for hosting Commonwealth Games is visiting Delhi from 3rd to 7th August 2003 to examine the strength and capacity of the city, to host the Commonwealth Games in 2010 – Shri Vijay Goel, Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports, said here today.

A high level committee was constituted under the Chairmanship of Shri Vijay Goel to finalise the preparation of the venues and infrastructure as presented by Indian Olympic Association, in its Bid document presented at Marlborough House, London.

Shri Goel Chaired the fourth meeting of the top officials of the Indian Olympic Association, Ministry of External Affairs, Delhi Development Authority, Municipal Corporation Delhi, Prasar Bharti, Delhi Metro, etc. to assess the preparation for receiving the Bid Commission.

The Bid Evaluation Commission of Commonwealth Games comprising members from various countries will be received by the Indian Olympic Association and high officials of the Ministries of the Government of India. The Committee will be presented by thousands of signatures from the school children and youth to show their enthusiasm in favour of hosting the Games in New Delhi.

The committee will be visiting various stadia like Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium, National Stadium, Talkatora Stadium, DLTA Stadium, Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, Siri Fort Sports Complex, Dr. Shyma Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Complex, Dr. Ambedkar Stadium, Yamuna Sports Complex, etc. The committee will also visit the proposed Games Village near Swami Narayan Temple near NOIDA Mod.

The Prasar Bharti will make a presentation regarding the kind of centre they will be setting up and the facilities of broadcasting and signals. It is proposed to set up the main Press Centre and the International broadcasting Facilities at ITPO Complex, Pragati Maidan. Shri Goel stated that he is hopeful that the Bid Commission will consider India’s claim to host the Commonwealth Games, 2010, favourably.
