INCENTIVE TO WOMEN FOR SAVING UNDER SGSY

LOK SABHA

Under the Swaranjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY), Self Help Groups (SHGs) are formed with thrift as entry point and Groups are encouraged to do savings. The savings help them to build up the group corpus, which is used as micro credit amongst the members. Once the group is assessed to be a cohesive group, it is given revolving fund through the bank. The revolving fund consists of a grant amount equivalent to the group corpus and credit which can go up to four times of the group corpus. This revolving fund is rotated amongst the members as micro credit.

Self Help Groups could be exclusively for women or could be mixed groups also.

This was informed by Minister of State for Rural Development Shri U.V. Krishanam Raju in a written reply to Shri Ramsheth Thakur in Lok Sabha today.
