EU BAN ON OLD OIL TANKERS NOT TO AFFECT
SHIPPING CORPORATION OF INDIA
The ban of the European
Union on single hull oil tankers of over 23 years of age carrying
crude oil or fuel oil will not have any impact on the tanker fleet
of the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI). This was stated by
the Minister of State for Shipping, Shri Dilipkumar Mansukhlal
Gandhi in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today. He said that
the ban is expected to come into force from July 1, 2003. The
Minister said that the SCI has 8 single hull crude oil tankers
which are over 23 years of age. Of these, two are on storage duty
on ONGC and British Gas. The other 6 tankers are operating between
Persian Gulf and on the Indian Coast.
