GRAND START TO THE DD NORTH-EAST MUSIC FEST – 2003


For the music lovers, the DD North-East Music Fest – 2003 has brought a virtual treat in the shape of music competition in the Capital at Hotel Ashoka. The two-day festival was inaugurated today admist much fan fare. Dr. C.P. Thakur, the Minister for Development of North-East and Shri Vikram Verma, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports inaugurated the above event.

Shri Verma in his address said that this function is an opportunity to link with the diverse and rich culture of the North-East which will be a strengthening bond for the country. It showcases the culture and civilization of North-Eastern part of the country. Shri C.P. Thakur said that it will provide connectivity between the sentiments and the hearts of the people of the North-East and the rest of the country.

The music extravaganza turned the Ashoka Hotel lawns into a festive place. Getting into the mood, the function began with the playing of the drums by the Ministers. Shri Vikram Verma took the lead and started playing while Shri C.P. Thakur joined in, thus giving a befitting start to the musical competition.

15 teams from 8 States of the North-East are participating in the competition. Each team is given 12 minutes for performance on the stage. The festival is jointly organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan; an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports; Doordarshan and Ashok Hotel.

The inauguration was well attended by the public and officials from the Ministry of Development of North-East, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Doordarshan and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan.
