COTTON PROCUREMENT DURING 2002-03
The Cotton Corporation
of India procured 6,33,748 bales (170 kg) of cotton during 2002-03.

The Maharashtra State
Co-operative Cotton Growers’ Marketing Federation Ltd had purchased
23.57 lakh quintal of kapas (seed cotton) during 2002-03 cotton
season (Oct.-Sept.). The Punjab State Cooperative Supply &
Marketing Federation Ltd had purchased lint cotton of 58768.42
quintal (36096 bales) in Punjab and 11565.81 quintal (7022 bales)
in Rajasthan. The Andhra Pradesh State Cooperative Marketing Federation
Ltd had purchased 5086 quintal of cotton during 2002-03. The Karnataka
State Cooperative Marketing Federation Ltd had not purchased cotton
from the farmers during 2002-03. However, the Federation had purchased
5,353 ready cotton bales from the market for Khadi and Village
Industries Commission/Board. The State Cooperative Federations
of Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh had not purchased
kapas (seed cotton) from cotton growers during the last financial
year 2002-03. The cotton growers had been paid for their produce
by the respective procurement agencies.
This was stated by
the Minister of State for Textiles, Shri Basanagouda R. Patil,
in reply to a question by Shri Subodh Mohite in the Lok Sabha
today.
