NAGA CEASE-FIRE FURTHER EXTENDED
The World Bank has
agreed to provide Andhra Pradesh a loan of $150 million for the
Rural Poverty Reduction Project during the current year. The Project,
called the Andhra Pradesh Rural Poverty Reduction project (APRPRP)
covering 548 backward mandals and all coastal fishermen villages
in 16 districts of the Andhra Pradesh has been signed by the Government
of India with the World Bank. These districts are Nizamabad, Karimnagar,
Warangal, Kurnool, Cuddapah, Nalgonda, Medak, Ranga Reddy, Khammam,
Krishna, Prakasam, Nellore, Guntur, East Godavari, West Godavari
and Visakhapatnam.
The total project
cost is Rs.1486 crores ($276.09 million) for a period of five
years ending June 2008. The World Bank is supporting the project
to the extent of Rs.805 crores ($150 million). The balance of
the cost is being met the State Government to the tune of Rs.325
crores, commercial banks Rs.282 crores and the target poor families
Rs. 74 crores.
The project is expected
to cover 20 lakh rural households.
This Project interventions
will be demand based. An indicative list of likely infrastructure
and social sector projects is as under:
i) Infrastructure
related: Multi-purpose community halls, expansion of local school
facilities, Drinking water, Godown, Human waste disposal and community
Drainage System etc.
ii) Social Welfare
related: Health, Education, Creche for child care and training
of Para Professionals (Para Health, Para teachers) etc.
