ALL ASSISTANCE BEING PROVIDED TO CYCLONE HIT PEOPLE OF DHUBRI IN ASSAM

All necessary assistance is being provided to the Cyclone affected people of Kalapani area of Mankachar Revenue Circle of Hatsingimari sub-division of Dhubri District of Assam. The area was ravaged by severe cyclonic storm on Tuesday night in which 650 families of the area were affected. 35 people died and 150 severely injured in the hurricane. 1350 people received minor injuries while many are still reported missing.

The Border Security Force which has a post in the area immediately rush to the affected area and undertook rescue and evacuation operations and also gave first-aid to the injured persons. They immediately put up food camps for the affected people who took shelter in whichever building available in that area. The medical teams rushed from Dhubri and Goalpara Dstricts took up the job immediately.

The Central Relief Commissioner, Ministry of Home Affair has been in constant touch with a State Government authorities and advised them to provide relief out of the Calamity Relief Fund which includes gratuitous relief, treatment for the injured people, clothing and utensils and repair of damaged houses. The State authorities of Assam have also been requested to indicate if any more assistance was needed from the Centre and the position is being monitored constantly by the Home Ministry.

The storm which hit the area after sunset severely affected 8 villages in which a large number of cattle heads were lost. Over 1350 houses were completely damaged leaving the people in the area homeless.

The Deputy Commissioner, Dhubri and the Divisional Commissioner are camping the area to oversee the relief work.
