PROFESSIONAL TRAINING TO BACKWARD
TRIBES
The Ministry of Tribal
Affairs implements inter alia, a Scheme of Vocational Training
in Tribal Areas in the country, under which a 100% grant-in-aid
is provided for setting up Vocational Training Centres (VTC),
both to the State Governments as well as to NGOs. Under this Scheme
two VTCs have been sanctioned to the Government of J&K at
Kijipora Kangan in Srinagar district and Agling Leg in Leh district.
The VTCs are to provide
training to the tribal population of the area which includes the
Gujjar and Bakrawal tribes.
The VTC at Kijipora
Kangan, Srinagar is already running. However, the VTC at Leh will
be operationalised after construction of the building.
The trades sanctioned
for the two VTCs are namely Watch Repairs, Welding, Radio/TV Repair,
Plumbing and Electrician in Kangan; and Cutting/Tailoring, Fresco
painting, Pashmina-spinning, Handloom weaving and Carpentry in
Leh.
This information
was given by the Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Shri Jual
Oram in written reply to a question from Shri Abdul Rashid Shaheen
in the Lok Sabha today.
