MINISTER OF STATE FOR RAILWAYS LAUNCHES
ACD SURVEY ON 400 ROUTE KILO METRES
The Minister of State
for Railways Shri Bandaru Dattatraya launched Anti Collision Device
(ACD) survey on 400 kilometre long Renigunta-Guntakal-Toranagallu
route at a function on South Central Railway in Andhra Pradesh
today.
The survey, to
be done by the Konkan Railway Corporation in collaboration with
the South Central Railway in Guntakal Division, will map satellite
coverage all along the route and identify shadow areas, radio
reception to monitor and map radio signal reception to locate
repeaters where needed, station survey and design for deviation
count profiling all the station yards and alternate methods to
derive the track identification automatically by an ACD fitted
locomotive.
The ACD survey
will be completed by June 15, 2003.
The ACD, developed
by the Konkan Railway, is power of knowledge improving safety
device, a micro processed based equipment, comprising a central
processing unit, a Global Position System and digital radio modem
for communication with other ACDs. When loaded on loco alongwith
auto-braking unit, it becomes loco ACD. When fitted to guard-van,
it becomes guard ACD, at station, it becomes station ACD and at
level crossing gates, it becomes gate ACD. They all network among
themselves, exchange information and take decision to prevent
collision type of dangerous situation well in time automatically
without manual, inputs, forming Raksha Kavach.
At present, ACD
survey on 1800 route kilometres on Northeast Frontier Railway
in the North Eastern Region is on. It has been successfully tried
by Indian Railways.
The ACD is designed
to prevent collision between two trains, thus, making safety of
train services in this area a foolproof device.
