RELIGIOUS PLACES PROTECTED BY ARCHAEOLOGICAL
SURVEY OF INDIA
There are 949 religious
places protected by Archaeological Survey of India where prayer/puja/namaj
is held. These include 11 churches, 237 mosques and 701 temples.
This was informed by the Minister for Tourism and Culture, Shri
Jagmohan in a reply to a question by Shri P.D. Elangovan and Shri
G.M. Banatwalia in Lok Sabha today.
Shri Jagmohan further
informed the House that Government spent Rs. 260.18 lakhs during
2002-2003 for maintenance centrally protected monuments in the
country which include expenditure on the maintenance of above
said religious places.
