RINL MEETS 25 PER CENT OF COUNTRY'S LONG STEEL REQUIREMENT

The rated capacity of the Vishakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) of the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) is 3.0 million tonnes of liquid steel and 2.656 million tonnes of saleable steel. Against this RINL produced 3.357 million tonnes of liquid steel and 3.056 million tonnes of saleable steel during the financial year 2002-03 thereby meeting approximately 25 per cent of the country's demand for long steel products.

In India the total demand for long steel products is nearly 12 million tonnes. Besides RINL, SAIL, TISCO and other secondary producers also cater to this demand.

This Information was given by the Minister of Steel, Shri Braja Kishore Tripathy in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
