ELITEX 2003 TO BE HELD ON APRIL 28, 2003

TO FOCUS ON " MOVING UP THE VALUE CHAIN"
The two day exposition
ELITEX-2003 to disseminate information on technologies and products
developed in the areas of IT is being organised from April 28,
2003. The theme of Elitex-2003 is "Moving up the Value Chain
: India – A Global Destination for R&D". Organised by
the Department of Information Technology, Elitex provides a unique
opportunity for industry to pick a product/technology for commercial
exploitation; for R&D institutes and academics to forge industry
tie-ups; experience sharing with other experts and interaction
with commercial attaches and delegates of other countries. The
exhibition will focus on technologies/know-how developed and services
offered at various institutions in the country. The participating
institutions will get an opportunity to highlight their activities
and technologies/services that can be offered to the industry
and public at large.
The event will be
inaugurated by the Union Minister for Communications, Information
Technology and Disinvestment, Shri Arun Shourie. The Principal
Scientific Advisor to the Government, Dr. R. Chidambram will be
the key speaker on the occasion. The Scope of Elitex-2003 has
been enlarged to include official participation from European
countries besides the Central and West Asia, Gulf, Latin America
and SAARC countries. The member countries of Asia Electronics
Info-Communications Union (AEIU) are also expected to participate.
The official delegations of these countries will focus on the
opportunities and tie-up possibilities with India, in a separate
session during the seminar.
Apart from crucial
policy issues in the IT sector, the Seminars during the exposition
will cover the state-of-the-art technologies. It will also focus
on presentations from different States of India. The State Governments
are also being requested to exhibit their available e-governance
facilities and the status of IT industry in their respective States.
Some of the key sessions
include: Emerging growth areas, R&D led success stories, enhanching
e-readiness, innovation to enhance digital unite, human resource
development initiatives and global IP protection and partnership. The
Conference will witness large scale participation from eminent
personalities in both the corporate and government IT sector.

Shri Rahul Mullick, WIPRO Infotech, Dr. K.N. Gupta, Chairman,
CCA, Shri S. Devarajan, VP&Head, CISCO, Dr. Manoj Kumar, IBM
Research Centre, Shri Vinay L. Deshpande, Chairman, Encore, Shri
Kiran Karnik, President, NASSCOM, Shri Prithipal Singh, CMD, BSNL,
Shri Anil Sinha, SPO, PCT, WIPO, Shri Deependra Moitra, Infosys
besides senior officials from the Department of Information Technology.
Elitex-2003 will
also showcase products, technologies, services developed by various
institutes. Some of the leading participants include: Centre for
Development of Advanced Computing(C-DAC), Ernet, Software Technology
Parks of India(STPI), Society for Applied Microwave Electronics
Engineering & Research(SAMEER), Centre for Development of
Telematics(C-DOT), DOEACC, Centre for Materials for Electronics
Technology(C-MET) and CMC. Key technological products being showcased
include: tools related to computer development, e-learning and
Media Lab Asia initiatives in this regard, environment management
in electronics, professional and strategic electronics, IPR promotion,
industrial applications, health and biotech applications, e-commerce
and information security, centre for e-Governance initiatives
and tools related to knowledge based enterprises.
Department of
Information Technology has been funding Research Design and Development
Projects in the areas of Electronics and Information Technology
at various institutions and industry. To disseminate information
about indigenous R&D among potential users and the industry,
and also to promote interaction between industry and R&D institutions,
Elitex (Electronics&IT Exposition) is being organised since
1999.
