RAILWAY MINISTER GIVES AWAY PRIZES
AND SHIELDS TO OFFICIALS AND ZONAL RAILWAYS

LONG 150TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS OF RAILWAYS
CONCLUDES
The Union Minister
of Railways, Shri Nitish Kumar gave away awards in cash and citation
to 133 railwaymen and women from all over the country at the Central
Function held at Chennai to mark the 48th Railway Week,
2003 and finale of year long celebrations of 150 glorious years
of Indian Railways today.
The prizes comprised
18 Group ‘D’ employees and 115 Group ‘C’ employees for their outstanding
performances in different disciplines of Indian Railways. Besides,
the Minister awarded first and second prizes each in cash and
citation to two officials each for Essay Competition in Hindi
both in non-gazetted and gazetted category. Similarly two officials
each in gazetted and non-gazetted category for Essay Competition
in English were awarded. In addition, nine persons were given
away scrap disposal performance prizes. Added to these, the Railway
Minister gave away Comprehensive Health Care Shield to Northern
Railway for the best medicare, Civil Engineering Shield to South
Eastern Railway, Mechanical Engineering Shield to Central Railway,
Electrical Engineering Shield to Southern Railway, Signal and
Telecommunication Engineering Shield to Central Railway, Personnel
Management Shield to Eastern Railway, Stores Shield to South Eastern
Railway, Security Shield to Southern Railway, Traffic Transportation
Shield to Northern Railway, Accounts and Finance Management Shield
to Central Railway, Safety Shield to Western Railway, Commercial
Shield jointly to Western and Northern Railways, Civil Engineering
Construction Shield to Western Railway and Govind Vallabh Pant
Shield to Southern Railway.
Speaking on the occasion,
the Railway Minister, Shri Nitish Kumar congratulated the awardees
for their outstanding performances during the preceding year 2002-03
hoping that others would emulate them to raise their efficiency
and productivity in the days to come. The Minister said that the
Government was proud of railwaymen and women and gave an overview
of how Indian Railways came out of the wood recently and were
on the right track of growth and progress to maintain primacy
in bulk transportation. Purveying the role of the Indian Railways
as an instrument of social change, growth and prosperity of the
country, the Minister exhorted railwaymen and women to re-dedicate
themselves by working hard to improve all round productivity of
Indian Railways and to provide user friendly services and meet
the challenges of emerging globalisation of Indian economy. The
two Ministers of State for Railways S/Shri A.K. Moorthy and Bandaru
Dattatraya also spoke on the occasion. The Chairman Railway Board
Shri I.I.M.S. Rana, Financial Commissioner and other Members of
the Railway Board were present on the occasion.
Later, a Laser Show
highlighting evolution of Railways in India was presented to the
occular delight of the audience followed by a colourful and spectacular
cultural programme.
