POWER FROM SOLAR ENERGY IN GUJARAT
The Government is
implementing the Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) Programme for generating
electricity from solar energy for lighting, pumping and other
applications, in all states including Gujarat. SPV systems like
solar home systems, street lighting systems, water pumping systems,
solar power plants and solar lanterns, etc. are being promoted
under the programme by providing capital and interest subsidies
and other financial incentives. The SPV Programme in Gujarat is
being implemented through the State nodal agency for renewable
energy programmes i.e. the Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA),
Vadodara.
As per reports received
till 31st March 2003, the following SPV systems have
been installed in the State, with financial support from the Central
and the State Governments :

- 3,292 solar home systems
- 2,049 solar street lighting
systems
- 43 solar water pumping systems
- 50.60 kWp aggregate SPV capacity
of solar power plants and generating systems.
