POWER FROM SOLAR ENERGY IN GUJARAT

The Government is implementing the Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) Programme for generating electricity from solar energy for lighting, pumping and other applications, in all states including Gujarat. SPV systems like solar home systems, street lighting systems, water pumping systems, solar power plants and solar lanterns, etc. are being promoted under the programme by providing capital and interest subsidies and other financial incentives. The SPV Programme in Gujarat is being implemented through the State nodal agency for renewable energy programmes i.e. the Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA), Vadodara.

As per reports received till 31st March 2003, the following SPV systems have been installed in the State, with financial support from the Central and the State Governments :

    1. 38,254 solar lanterns
    2. 3,292 solar home systems
    3. 2,049 solar street lighting systems
    4. 43 solar water pumping systems
    5. 50.60 kWp aggregate SPV capacity of solar power plants and generating systems.
