STEEL EXPORT UP 41 PER CENT
LOK SABHA
The export of
steel from April 2002 to February 2003 has been estimated at 38.50
lakh tonnes as against to 27.35 lakh tonnes during the same period
last year registering an increase of 41 per cent. This information
was given by the ministry for Steel Shri Braja Kishore Tripathy
in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
Replying to a
question regarding Government's export promotion measures to sustain
this positive trend the Minister informed that in a deregulated
and decontrolled environment, the market strategy, including exports
is primarily decided by the individual producers. Indian Steel
Producers have been taking several steps like upgradation of technology,
improvement in productivity, improvement in quality of products
and adoption of an appropriate product-mix to suit the requirements
of the international markets. The producers continue their search
for new and non-traditional markets.
