PRESIDENT GIVES AWAY SCOPE AWARDS
The President, Shri
A.P.J.Abdul Kalam has said for efficient utilisation of existing
knowledge can create a comprehensive wealth and also improve the
quality of life – in the form of better health, education, infrastructure
and other social indicators. The President was speaking at a one-day
Conference of Chief Executives of Public Enterprises which he
inaugurated here today. He said that the ability to create and
maintain the knowledge infrastructure, develop knowledge workers
and enhance their productivity through creation, growth and exploitation
of new knowledge will be the key factors in deciding the propriety
of this Knowledge Society. Whether a nation has arrived at a stage
of Knowledge Society is judged by the way the country effectively
deals with knowledge creation and knowledge deployment in all
sectors like IT, Industries, Agriculture, Health Care etc. Indeed
development and innovative use of multiple technologies with mission
projects and transparent management structure will give thrust
for transforming India into a 'developed nation'.
Speaking on the occasion,
the Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Shri
Balasaheb Vikhe Patil said that the economic and industrial scenario
round the globe is changing very rapidly. While the corporate
world is trying to reinvent itself to cope with the pressures
of globalisation, Indian Public Sector Enterprises are required
to be more vigilant and watchful to cope with the changing scenario.
He said we have to identify strategies to meet the overall objectives
of the economic development. The country is now poised for a big
leap forward in taking up the next generation of reforms. This
would have a significant bearing on the structure and performance
of the Public Sector in the country. He said that modernisation
and upgradation of technologies are the areas, which required
immediate attention.
Earlier, Shri Naresh
Narad, Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises
in his welcome address said that in view of the new economic policies
which lay great stress and emphasis on competition, improved efficiency,
lowering of import tariff, liberalisation of imports there is
a need to evolve strageties for stable and bright future of PSEs.
Shri C.P.Jain, CMD, NTPC and Chairman, SCOPE proposed a vote of
thanks.
The President also
gave away the awards for the top ten PSEs selected for MoU awards
for excellence in performance and the SCOPE awards for excellence
and outstanding contribution to the Public Sector Management.
