COMPUTERISED UNRESERVED TICKETING

The project of computerized Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS), introduced in Delhi area of Northern Railway during 2002-2003 covering all 23 stations at 90 counters, will be extended to Eastern, East Central, North Eastern, Northeast Frontier and remaining stations of Northern Railway in a phased manner in the current financial year 2003-2004.

The UTS is similar to the computerized Passenger Reservation System (PRS). Under the scheme, the tickets can be purchased 30 days in advance and the passenger need not necessarily buy the tickets from the stations where the journey is to commence.

This project aims at giving flexibility to the passengers for purchasing tickets on a convenient date and time which will reduce the queue lengths at the train originating stations where normally there is a heavy rush for the unreserved tickets before train departure.

In addition, the scheme intends to cover 12 million unreserved passengers daily in order to decongest over crowding at current ticket counters and to make journey pleasant.
