FILM BAZAAR-2002 ATTRACTS MANY FOREIGN FILM BUYERS


Buyers from many countries including China, Australia, Mauritius, South Africa, Iran and Dubai have shown interest in the Film Bazaar-2002, being set up during the International Film Festival of India, (IFFI-2002) to be held in Delhi from October 1 to 10, 2002. This year's Film Bazaar-2002 would be inaugurated by the Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Shri Shatrughan Sinha on October 2. National Film Developmemt Corporation (NFDC) is organising the Film Bazaar with the joint participation of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII).

The initial response to the film market has been very enthusiastic and a number of sellers have evinced interest in taking up the available stall space. Fourteen stalls have been set up along with facilitation and business centre for sellers in the film market. Facility for market screening of films has been provided in Siri Fort Auditorium No. III and a video viewing room has also been set up within the precincts of the Siri Fort Complex. Film Bazaar will also hold three seminars and eminent speakers and experts from relevant spheres will hold wide range of discussions and debates on issues such as growth of animation industry in india, co-productions and export of Indian films abroad.

The objective of Film Bazaar-2002 will be to create a focused opportunity for the entire international fraternity that is interested in buying, distributing, commissioning and co-producing Indian films and all those international products intended for sale, co-production and distribution in India, to meet and interact with the Indian counterparts. The market is also an opportunity to provide a showcase for facilities and locations for filming in India and an opportunity for foreign participants to showcase their countries similarly. These objectives and opportunities are given strength and direction in the backdrop of screening of films for IFFI-2002.The market has been launched on a modest but comprehensive scale and the size of the market is lilkely to increase in the coming years with the overall objective of making the Indian film market the largest in Asia.
