INDIA AND MEXICO HAVE MANY TRIBAL FEATURES COMMON TO BOTH THE COUNTRIES –KULASTE

Shri Faggan Singh Kulaste, Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs visited the Exhibition ‘Corazon de Venado’, depicting the life and customs of the Huicholes, an indigenous group from Mexico, here recently. Shri Kulaste while visiting the Exhibition expressed that India and Mexico have many tribal features common to both the countries. Life style of the tribals of Mexico which has been displayed in the exhibits have many similarities with the tribals of India, he said.

The Huichol nation lives in the remote Sierra Madre mountain regions of northern Jalisco and Nayarit in Mexico. This tribe has been remarkably notable for the degree to which its members have preserved their aboriginal speech (a Uto-Aztecan Language), religion (especially the peyote cult), lifestyle and customs. The Ambassador of Mexico, Mr. Julio Faesler Carlisie and Shri Kulaste admitted that more such display of exhibition should be made to exchange ideas to benefit the tribals of both the countries as they constitute 8% of Indian population and 10% of population in Mexico.

The MOS for Tribal Affairs, Shri Kulaste was invited by the Ambassador of Mexico to India to go round the Exhibition put up at Pragati Maidan.
