PRESIDENT CONDEMNS TERRORIST ATTACK IN SWAMI NARAYAN TEMPLE, GANDHINAGAR

The President, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has given the following message condemning terrorists attack in Swami Narayan temple at Gandhinagar.

"I have been shocked to learn about the terrorists attack in Swami Narayan temple at Gandhinagar. This is a cowardly attack not only on innocent people, but also on our secular national fabric as well. The incident needs to be condemned in the strongest possible terms by all peace loving people. It would also make us more resolute in our resolve against terrorism.

I am in contact with the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister, the Governor and the Chief Minister of Gujarat, to give all strength to the suffering devotees and also the Swamijis of Swami Narayan temple.

In this moment of anguish, I appeal to our people and especially to the people of Gujarat to keep peace. We should unitedly defeat all the evil designs against our great country which lives and shines through the civilizational heritage of our nation and the tolerance of our people.

Our police and security forces are fully capable of defeating all forms of terrorist attempts against our country and our people. Let our people support them with the show of strength through our traditional Unity of Minds and Unity in Action.

My heartfelt condolences to the families of all those who have lost lives and I pray to the Almighty for the peace for the departed souls and speedy recovery to those who are injured."
