NATIONAL
AWARDS FOR CHILD WELFARE FOR THE YEAR 2001 ANNOUNCED
Five institutions
and three individuals have been selected for the National Awards
for Child Welfare for the year 2001. The awards for the institutions
consist of a cash prize of Rs. 3 lakh each and a citation, and
that for the individuals, Rs. 1 lakh and a citation.
The awards are given
to encourage voluntary effort for the cause of children and are
presented by the President of India.. The selections for the award
are made by a Committee under the Chairmanship of the Minister
in-charge of the Department of Women and Child Development.
The institutions selected
for the award are: Vimukti Jati Abhyudaya Sangha, Morena (Madhya
Pradesh), (ii) Mazzarello Mission Home, Garobadha,Meghalaya, (iii)
Gandhi Orissa Balashram, Garadpur, Orissa, (iv) Sahayog Kushtha
Yagna Trust, Rajendranagar, Gujarat and (v) The Women's Welfare
Society, Shahapur, Karnataka
The
individuals selected for the award are: (i) Dr. Arun Ghosh of
Kolkata, (ii) late Shri Vineet Khanna of Chandigarh and (iii)
Smt. Rozario Lopez of Meghalaya.
