LABOUR MINISTRY TO FORMULATE SOON A LEGISLATION FOR UNORGANISED WORKERS

The Labour Ministry will soon formulate a legislation for granting labour rights to workers in the unorganised sector. The legislation will be based on the recommendations of the Second National Commission on Labour. This was disclosed by the Labour Minister Dr.Sahib Singh while presiding over a function to mark the Labour Education Day here today. He said this is important to improve the educational and living standards of the workers in the unorganised sector. Dr. Sahib Singh said that Gandhiji had called for organising and educating the workers without which their problems won’t get solved. Expressing dissatisfaction over the tardy progress in workers’ education, the Labour Minister said that concerted efforts would be made in next two years for making up the shortfall. He expressed hope that the Ministry would get support of all quarters in this endeavour. Dr. Singh said that it is necessary that the workers get educated so that they don’t get exploited.

The Function was organised by the Labour Education Board to mark its 45th Foundation Day.
