RESULTS OF ANNUAL
SURVEY OF INDUSTRIES FOR THE YEAR 1999-2002 RELEASED
The latest results of Annual Survey
of Industries (ASI) 1999-2000 have been released by the Central
Statistical Organisation (CSO), Ministry of Statistics & Programme
Implementation in the form of the publication "Annual Survey of
Industries - 1999-2000". The results brought out in two volumes
contain detailed information on important characteristics of the
universe surveyed.
While information in respect of States/UTs has
been presented upto the 3-digit level of the National Industrial
Classification (NIC) – 1998; at the all-India level the presentation
goes down to the 4-digit level of NIC-1998. Further details up
to the 5-digit level, whether at State/UT or at all-India level,
is available on electronic media (CD/floppy) on payment.
The CSO has been conducting ASI since 1959. The
survey covers manufacturing units registered under Sections 2
m (i) and 2 m (ii) of the Factories Act, 1948, gas works, water
works and supply, and certain repair services. Besides, the survey
also covers bidi & cigar establishments registered under Bidi
& Cigar Workers (Conditions of Employment) Act, 1966. The
survey aims to collect comprehensive data on important economic
characteristics/parameters of the registered manufacturing sector
and its contribution to the Indian economy.
In order to cater to the general demand for time-series
data on important characteristics, the CSO (IS Wing) has brought
out a special publication entitled "Time Series Data on Annual
Survey of Industries" from 1959 to 1997-98. This publication is
also available in printed form in two volumes, as well as on electronic
media.
The printed copies of the reports on ASI: 1999-2000,
as well as 'Time Series Data on Annual Survey of Industries',
can be purchased from the Controller of Publications, Department
of Publications, Ministry of Urban Development, Government of
India. These reports are available for sale on electronic media.
