SHATRUGHAN SINHA
APPEALS FOR LARGER SHARE OF GLOBAL FUND FOR AIDS
The meeting of Health Minister’s
of South East Asia Region Organisation (SEARO) being organised
by WHO in Jakarta , today deliberated upon Global Fund for AIDS,
TB, Malaria and regional mechanism for bulk purchase of selected
quality essential drugs. In the meeting the Union Health and Family
Welfare Minister, Shri Shatrughan Sinha appealed for larger share
from global fund for India. He also stated that India would be
presenting its proposal for HIV/AIDS and TB before 22 September
2002.
Shri Shatrughan Sinha also emphasised
the importance of availability of cost effective quality drugs
for improving the health of the people in developing countries.
The WHO’s Medicine Strategy involves improvement of access to
essential drugs and medicines, Shri Sinha requested SEARO to continue
giving technical support for implementing this strategy.
The Minister also co-chaired the
third session on Report of Commission of Macro-economics &
Health along with the Indonesian counterpart. This was 20th
