Q1 PERFORMANCE OF BRL & SIIL
Bharat Refractories
Limited (BRL), a public sector undertaking (PSU) of the Steel
Ministry, during April-July, 2002, has improved its profitability
by 17 per cent. The turnover has also significantly gone up to
Rs.17.80 crore from Rs.14.82 crore during the corresponding period
of the previous year. The loss during the period has gone down
from Rs.14.76 crore to Rs.11.98 crore. The Union Minister for
Steel Shri B.K. Tripathy appreciated the progress made by the
company and advised to maintain the progress. The Minister was
reviewing the progress of the PSU during the first four months.
Shri Tripathy
asked BRL to implement the revival of package approved by the
Government effectively and show its impact on physical and financial
performances to earn net profit. He also asked to keep costs under
control, explore and establish new markets and produce refractories
according to the specifications of the plants.
The
Minister also reviewed the performance of Sponge Iron India Limited
(SIIL) during the first quarter of this fiscal and observed that
the company in all major parameters, has fulfilled
the physical and financial targets during this period. He pointed
out that the specific consumption of iron ore per tonne of sponge
iron should be lowered to meet the target.
