The Handloom Sector
has fixed a target of US $ 550 million for the export of cotton
handloom fabrics and made ups for the year 2002-03. In the first
two months of the current financial year the exports of this sector
were to the tune of Rs.397.37 crore (US $ 18.16 million). This
is 33.7% higher than the corresponding period of previous year
in rupee terms and 28% in dollar terms.
There is a substantial
increase in the fabric exports particularly plain-woven fabrics,
though the export of made-ups is stagnating. The latest handloom
export data is given in the following tables: -
