RWANDA SEEKS INDIA'S ASSISTANCE IN DEVELOPING AGRICULTURE SECTOR


Dr. Kabaija Ephraim, Minister of Agriculture, Animal Resources & Forestry, Republic of Rwanda met Union Agriculture Minister, Shri Ajit Singh here and sought India’s assistance in developing his country’s agriculture sector. Dr. Ephraim has come to India along with a team of businessmen to source Indian technology appropriate for his country.

Dr. Ephraim apprised Shri Ajit Singh of a priority programme launched in Rwanda to increase rice production and discussed how India could collaborate in this venture. Shri Singh suggested that agricultural scientists and students of Rwanda could be trained in India under an exchange programme and an MOU may be signed for this purpose. He said that India, which was once deficient in rice production, has not only substantially increased the production but has become a major exporter of rice because of efforts made at several levels.

The Agriculture Minister of Rwanda was deeply impressed by the green revolution in India and praised the progress made in the field of agricultural research and dairy technology. Senior officials of the Agriculture Ministry were also present during the meeting.
