National Mineral Development
Corporation Ltd. (NMDC), a public sector unit of the Steel Ministry
has paid Rs. 32.5 crore dividend for the year 2001-02. The cheque
was presented today to the Union Minister for Steel, Shri B.K.
Tripathy by the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the company
Shri P.R. Tripathy. This is for the sixth consecutive year since
1996-97, the company has declared total Rs. 33.4 crore dividend
to its share holders. Since 1991-92 to 1995-96, dividend declared
each year was Rs. 26.43 crore.
NMDC has been showing excellent
performance over the last few years for which Government of India
is considering the proposal for grant of Navratna status to the
Company. However, the overall performance of the company in the
first half of the financial year 2002-03 has not been promising
due to heavy rainfall in the mining areas during the monsoon.
In a review meeting taken yesterday by the Steel Minister, the
company has been asked to make up its performance substantially
during the second half to meet annual targets.
