RAILWAYS ELECTRIFY 495 ROUTE KILOMETRES THIS YEAR

TOTAL ROUTE ELECTRIFIED SO FAR COMES TO 16109 KM


Indian railways have further electrified 495 route kilometers spread across different Zonal Railways during this calendar year. With this the total electrified route length comes to 16109 kms. which is 26 per cent of the total route kilometers of Indian Railways. This electrified route carries almost 60 per cent of freight and 48 per cent of passenger traffic of Railways.

During the Ninth Plan against a target of 2300 route kilometers, Railways electrified 2484 route kms. The route electrified this year includes Lucknow Circular Railway including Malhur-Safedabad-Barabanki of Northern Railway, Patna-Mughalsarai of Eastern Railway, Chengalpattu-Tindivanam of Southern Railway, Tapang-Bhubaneswar-Rajatgarh and Ranchi-Hatia-Bondumunda of South Eastern Railway, Kusunda-Jamuniatand of East Central Railway and Dondaicha-Nandurbar of Western Railway.

During the Tenth Plan it is envisaged that another 2150 route kms. shall be electrified. Provision of Rs.1500 crores is likely to be made for achieving this target.
