PRESIDENT TO VISIT MEGHALAYA AND NAGALAND


The President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam will begin his third visit to the North Eastern Region within a month when he leaves for Meghalaya and Nagaland tomorrow on a three-day tour. The President had visited Tripura, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh earlier this month.

On the first leg of his visit, the President will arrive in Shillong tomorrow. During his stay in the Meghalaya capital Dr. Kalam will inaugurate the 72nd Annual Session of the National Academy of Sciences, India and the National Symposium on Bio-Diversity at the North Eastern Hill University. He will also address the students and faculty members of the University. Later in the day, the President will lay the foundation stone of the 2 X 42 Megawatt Myntdu Leshka Hydel Power Project. Dr. Kalam will also hold an interaction with school children from various schools in Shillong and will also meet the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, his Cabinet colleagues and a delegation of NGOs.

During his visit to Nagaland on October 26th and 27th, the President will be felicitated by the Tuensang and Mon People’s Organisation. Dr. Kalam will also hold an interaction with the Members of the Eleutheros Christian Society and school children in Tuensang. The President will also visit the village of Khuzama during which he will also see a Primary School. Later, while in the state capital, Kohima, the President will be given a presentation on fresh initiatives in the State. Dr. Kalam will also meet the State Chief Minister and will also hold interactions with students and NGOs. The President will conclude his tour with a visit to the Kohima War Cemetery.

Dr. Kalam has specially chosen the North Eastern states for these series of visits as he would like to use this opportunity to have a first-hand knowledge of the on-going development works there and also to get to know the pressing problems faced by the people.
