VICE PRESIDENT
AND HRD MINISTER JOIN SIGNATURE CAMPAIGN AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE
The Vice President
of India, Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and the Human Resource
Development Minister, Dr. Murli Manohar Joshin today joined the
signature campaign for the protection of climate. The signature
campaign is a part of the activities being organised by the Union
Ministry of Environment and Forests to promote public awareness
about climate change, its causes and adverse effects. The Vice
President joined the campaign by signing on a large scroll of
signatures brought by the students of Manavsthali School, at his
residence. Later, the Human Resource Development Minister, Dr.
Murli Manohar Joshi also joined the campaign by appending his
signature.
Shri P.V. Jayakrishnan,
Secretary, Shri K.C. Mishra, Special Secretary, Shri Desh Deepak
Verma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Forests
were also present on the occasion.
India is hosting
the 8th Conference of Parties to the United Nations
Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 8) which is to begin
from the 23rd of October, 2002. The 10-day Conference
to be attended by Environment Ministers and delegates from 185
countries will discuss various aspects of climate change before
concluding with the adoption of Delhi Declaration including a
framework of action for combating climate change.
