NATION WIDE CELLULAR SERVICE - 'CELL ONE' LAUNCHED


The Prime Minister, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, today inaugurated the Nationwide Cellular Service – Cell One, launched by the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). The Prime Minister had a Tele-conference from Lucknow with the Deputy Prime Minister, Shri L.K. Advani in New Delhi while launching - Cell One. During their interaction, both the leaders recalled the days when they had no telephones at their residence. Mr. Advani said this is another step forward in connecting and uniting India.

This Cellular Service launched by the BSNL will be for the entire country consisting of four Tele-com Zones and seventeen Circles. The technology utilized is GSM, the most popular GSM digital cellular standard being used throughout the world and includes add-ons like Intelligent Network, Billing and Customer Care System and Unified Messaging Services. The cellular service will cover all the District Headquarters during this financial year reaching out a wider population.

In his welcome address the Minister for Telecommunication and Information Technology, Shri Pramod Mahajan said it will be affordable and help in delivering social justice.
