ALL INDIA CONSUMER PRICE
INDEX FOR AGRICULTURAL AND RURAL LABOURERS INCREASES
The All-India
Consumer Price Index for Agricultural and Rural Labourers (Base
1986-87 = 100) increased during September, 2002 by 2 points each
to stand at 321 for Agricultural Labourers and 323 for Rural Labourers.
In
case of Agricultural Labourers, 14 states reflected an increase
in indices between 1 to 4 points and two States showed decrease
of 2 to 3 point while the indices in 4 States remained constant.
In
the case of Rural Labourers, 17 states reflected increase in indices
between 1 to 4 points and two State showed decrease in indices
ranging between 2 to 4 points while the indices remained constant
in one state.
Among
the States, Karnataka, Manipur, Rajasthan and West Bengal experienced
sharpest increase of 4 points each in respect of both the series.
On the other hand, Kerala recorded maximum decrease of 3 points
and 4 points for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers respectively.
Meghalaya continued to be at
the top of the index table for Agricultural Labourers with 343
points while for Rural Labourers Punjab & Meghalaya figured
at the top with 340 points each. Bihar remained at
the bottom of the index with 298 points for Agricultural
Labourers while for Rural Labourers Manipur and Bihar were at
the bottom with 300 points.
