PRESIDENT TO VISIT UTTARANCHAL
The President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
will be visiting Uttaranchal on October 19, 2002. During the visit,
the President will launch the Mobile Diagnostic Clinic and Research
Centre jointly supported by the Government of Uttaranchal and
the Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council
(TIFAC), Government of India. The project will provide high quality
diagnostic care in the far-flung mountain regions of the State.
The mobile hospital will cater to the districts
of Chamoli and Nainital in the Garhwal region and Almora, Bageshwar
and Champawat districts in the Kumaon region. It is expected that
this facility will be started in the other parts of Uttaranchal
in the second phase by April, 2003. This will be the country’s
first mobile hospital to provide treatment to patients suffering
from almost all types of diseases. The medical facilities will
include X-ray, Ultrasound, ECG, Blood, Sugar and Cholesterol tests.
The President will also lay the foundation stone
at Almora of the Uday Shankar Academy for Dance and Music. This
academy is being set up jointly by the Department of Culture,
Government of India and the Government of Uttaranchal.
The President’s programme also includes a visit
to Dehradun, where he will inaugurate the Founder’s Day Celebration
of Doon School and will interact with students and teachers. The
President will also inaugurate the Centenary celebrations of the
MKP College at Dehradun. The President will return to the Capital
in the evening.
