FDI INFLOWS INCREASED BY OVER 26% DURING AUGUST 2002


The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is in the process of setting up a number of more meteorological centres in the newly created states as well as in others where it does not have a major presence. It is also upgrading some of its centres as well as the observational network in the north-eastern region.

A new MET centre for Uttaranchal was recently set up in Dehradun and new centres are being established at Raipur (Chhatisgarh), Ranchi (Jharkhand), Simla (Himachal Pradesh), Gangtok (Sikkim) and Agartala (Tripura).

The Cherrapunji rain gauge is being upgraded to a full-fledged meteorological observatory. 16 new part-time observatories are also coming up in different parts of the north-eastern region in cooperation with the State governments and other Agencies. A regional instrument and maintenance centre is to be established at Guwahati for better up-keep of the observatories in the region.

The IMD through the internet provides, All-India daily weather report, weekly weather report, daily monsoon report (during monsoon), weather charts, latest satellite images, rainfall maps, earthquake reports, severe weather warnings, climate normals and astronomical information.
