VIJAY GOEL TO INAUGURATE SEMINAR ON TIME USE STATISTICS

Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation is organising a two-day national seminar on Applications of Time Use Statistics. Shri Vijay Goel, Minister for State for Statistics & Programme Implementation and PMO will inaugurate the seminar here tomorrow.

Time Use Survey is a newly emerging survey technique in which comprehensive data collected on how people spend their time on productive as well as personal care activities. A number of productive activities performed by people especially by women do not get remunerated. Time use data, which highlight such unpaid work, are relevant for framing policies related to gender equity, poverty alleviation and other social imperatives.

Organised in collaboration with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), New Delhi and the Centre For Development Alternatives (CFDA), Ahmedabad, the seminar will be attended by international agencies like International Labour Office (ILO), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and UNIFEM and the representatives from Nepal and Sri Lanka. A large number of national experts and Non Government Organisations (NGOs) working in this field will also be participants.
